Greater London Authority

The Greater London Authority has teamed up with charity Veterans Aid to provide a route off the street for every veteran who is homeless or facing homelessness in London. In 2018 the Mayor of London opened New Belvedere House, a refurbished and extended facility for homeless UK veterans run by Veterans Aid. The facility has been operating in Tower Hamlets for 45 years and runs a unique ‘Welfare to Wellbeing’ programme which helps transform the lives of homeless UK ex-service personnel by offering an immediate route off the streets.

Veterans Aid provides immediate accommodation and a bespoke, structured pathway into independent living. The service’s ‘no first night out’ approach also supports any UK Veteran who is at risk of becoming homeless in London, to prevent them from having to sleep rough in the first place. Outreach teams from across Greater London can refer clients to the service and help them off the streets.
