LGA webinar: Helping councils reduce veterans’ homelessness

Local councils are in a unique position to identify and support homeless veterans. They work alongside other organisations to help veterans adjust to civilian life.

To support councils in England to respond to homeless veterans, the Local Government Association (LGA) is hosting a special webinar.

Taking place on Wednesday 8 February between 10.30 and 12, this webinar is an opportunity to understand more about homeless veterans and equip staff with practical ways to help.

This session is relevant to:

  • council elected members
  • council housing officers and Armed Forces Covenant leads
  • housing associations, supported housing and charities

Being chaired by the LGA’s Community Wellbeing Board lead, Cllr David Fothergill, attendees will hear from Richard Gammage, CEO of Stoll, the charity leading the No Homeless Veterans campaign.

Lisa Mcfadyen, Armed Forces Coordinator from Gateshead Council, will also be speaking about how the local authority works to recognise veterans who need support.

“This event is the perfect opportunity to learn more about how you and your colleagues can give crucial support to veterans as they make that important transition to civilian life.

“We’ve produced an invaluable toolkit for local authorities, housing associations and providers to give staff the knowledge they need to be able to support veterans. Come along to the webinar to learn more about how the toolkit can be used in your council.”
